Google Calendar is out.

Google Calendar Overview

The rumour we mentioned one month ago (Google entering the Web Office market) about something called CL2 becomes true : Google Calendar is out! Yes, another Google news, sorry guys. But it's not my fault if nobody ever sleeps at Google :-)

If you're interested, read the Google Calendar overview or take the Google Calendar Tour. Google seems to have done it right, one more time : GMail integration, calendar sharing, invitations, reminders, iCal compatibility, etc. Check for yourself, if you have a Google account.

Of course, Google is not the first in the web calendar market. There are other players, like those listed below, with no particular order:

Using a web calendar hosted and managed by some external company is a matter of trust. Not everyone wants to do that. For those who are scared about their privacy, alternative solutions exists. By example, we internally use WebCalendar, a very good SourceForge project.

For all the web calendars out there, the ability to import from and export to other calendars formats can be very important. Those using the good plain old "iCal" standard will probably find usefull calendars on iCalShare and other places.

As a final note, let's remember that not all calendar applications run on a web interface. For example, there are Mozilla projects : the Mozilla Calendar Project, the Sunbird project, and the Lightning project. Adventurous users in the Unix world are probably using special little-known tools like iCal, remind or a bunch of home-made shell scripts, but this is another story...
