Google and Skype invested $22 million in a Spanish startup, FON [1]. The startup aims at creating a global Wi-Fi [2] internet access, by sharing connections.

[3]
FON members can share their Wi-Fi access for free ("Linus" members, named after
Linus Torvalds [4], creator of
Linux [5]), or even charge for it ("Bill" members, named after
Bill Gates [6] of microsoft.com).
As Wi-Fi accesses are located in a very restricted area, perhaps Google see it as a new occasion to sell specially targeted ads ?
