Google & Skype Investing in FON WiFi

Google and Skype invested $22 million in a Spanish startup, FON. The startup aims at creating a global Wi-Fi internet access, by sharing connections.

FON members can share their Wi-Fi access for free ("Linus" members, named after Linus Torvalds, creator of Linux), or even charge for it ("Bill" members, named after Bill Gates of microsoft.com).

As Wi-Fi accesses are located in a very restricted area, perhaps Google see it as a new occasion to sell specially targeted ads ?
